Dear Cubase customers,

Cubase 4 was the first Cubase version not to support the import of Cubase VST songs and projects. Some of you who have older projects in Cubase VST and want to work on them in Cubase 4 have been in touch with us to ask us why we decided to do this. The main reasons are:

1) Today in 2008, the internal architecture of Cubase 4 has evolved to become very, very different from that of the old and dearly cherished Cubase VST. This isn’t surprising, seeing as Cubase VST 5 was released in 2001, and that seven years are pretty much an age in software development. The evolution of Cubase has meant that the cross-porting and mapping of project data has become more and more complicated with each new release of Cubase.

2) Developing and maintaining project import has become increasingly resource-intensive. We would like to focus our resources on developing new features as well as improving the already existing ones in the Cubase 4 generation products.

So we’ve come up with a way to give you the ability to import your older Cubase VST projects and songs. We have decided to make the previous Cubase SX3, Cubase SL3 and Cubase SE3 versions available as a download, you can get them here:

ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_4/Cubase_SX_3_VST_Song_Conversion
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_Studio_4/Cubase_SL_3_VST_Song_Conversion
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_Essential_4/Cubase_SE_3_VST_Song_Conversion

Cubase SX3 / SL3 / SE3 can be run with your current Cubase 4 / Cubase Studio 4 / Cubase Essential 4 license and allows you to import your VST projects, save them in the new *.cpr format and open them in Cubase 4 series. These are not officially supported under Windows Vista and OSX Leopard but should install and run just fine. Please be sure to install the current Syncrosoft License Control Center prior to starting Cubase SX3 / SL3 / SE3 for the first time. You can download the latest version here:

http://www.syncrosoft.com/downloads

We know that a built-in import function would be handier, but we’re also sure that this workaround is acceptable for you while allowing us to dedicate resources to more important areas of the application.

Thanks for choosing Cubase!

Yes, it does. It will run using Rosetta but all you want to do is converting the song files and no maximum performance or plug-in compatibility is needed.

Q1:
Why does OSX warn me that "The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system"?

Q2:
Isn't a serial required to install?

Hello,

A tried to load my old songs, but ALL of them imported with error message :
Invalid project file.
Song loaded, but still problem : Some of my audio tracks are seems to be dead:
There is no sound. If I duplicate the track, it's works again.
I can't see any difference on that tracks that sounds right and with no sound.
(same outputs, there is no inserts etc)

Anybody knows that what cause this problem ?

Thanks in advance,
Victor

Is this SX3 package still available? I've tried many times over a few months to download the file
but it fails. Each time I'm told "Steinberg server disconnected".

Has this deal been withdrawn? Any ideas?

I've also tried to download the SX3 version & got the same message as Steinberg server disconnected.
Can someone reply if it's still available?
Cheers, Bruce

I've just converted all my old VST5 Songs to SX3. I thought everything was fine but realised that none of the songs converted the Lyrics or text across.
I just use the songs as midi files & have the karaoke as text for my midi files in a live situation.
Is there something I've done wrong or wont it convert text across to SX3?

Cheers Bruce

I get the same message - I presume that since this has not been answered for many years that nobody knows.
I thought I would try and ask again - Why does OSX warn me that "The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system"?

I had trouble, too. I tried this and it worked.

Click on this link or paste it into the latest Safari:
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/

That should open a Finder window with lots of folders in it.
Open the one labeled Cubase_4 and in it you should find the "Cubase_SX_3_VST_Song_Conversion" folder and in it is the file you need. just drag and drop.

I confirm: Text Events are not imported (I'm using them to label some CCs and SysEx in the List Editor).

I got the download, but trying to open it always results in Cubase crashing.
Any tips for a solution?

An interested cell mate asked me to relay the following:
Quote:
Someone tell Jet...

... installing SX3 probably reverted his LCC so he needs to install either the C4 one or later. If not, ask him to clarify the problem.
