HALion Player Retail/OEM 3.2 updates available !

Dear HALion Player friends !

There are pre-release updates available for HALion Player Retail and the HALion Player OEM versions, e.g. for HALion Player Scarbee & ProjectSam. These new versions are updating the HALion Player versions to 3.2.0.1174 (PC) and 3.2.0.1175 (MAC).

For details about new features and fixes please read the Version History PDF. Please also note that these versions are not yet final release versions but stable pre-releases.

In order to use these updaters it is required to have the matching HALion Player already installed !

So far I'm impressed. 0.1 second preload and a good voice count. Right now I'm having a hard time going over 100 voice by banging on the keyboard with my forearms - perhaps a more intelligent voice stealing algorithm? I've not done too much testing with CPU nearly maxed out (running other VSTi and effects, etc), but straight up playing is pretty nice. I'll have more time with it over the weekend, and will try a few "wicked" things to see if I can make is go splat.



But as I said - seems really robust... nice work, folks. Talk to you again over the weekend with more info...

I have downloaded the latest player. On boot up Cubase SL302.623 I get this message:-This mixer config Halion Player to have 4 stereo 4 mono 1 stereo. The instrument currently has 4 stereo, 4 mono, 1 5,1. Change the instrument config before reloading this setup without saving. I can't change in the player Options so where can I make the change required. I was told from a previuos post that this upgrade was going to fix this problem. Have you any advice as to how I can change the output config.

From the release notes, the retail HALion player *can* now change the output config. Unfortunately, I can't confirm that as I'm using the OEM player with SCARBEE's VKC. It has a static output config, so this isn't an issue for me. Wish I could help.

We need to inverstigate the output options in HALion Player retail, I know it worked here in beta, but maybe something is wrong with the update Installer. Will be fixed in final 3.2 release.

my setup: Powerbook running OS 10.3.9 and Logic 7.1

- both activation codes successfully registered on the dongle (Scarbee KGB and Halion Player OEM)
- Halion keeps crashing the AU validation in Logic (version of Halion Player is 3.1.0.947)

Since I have downloaded the latest version of LLC, and Halion OEM 3.2 update (as well as Halion Retail, by mistake).

I have installed them all, OEM first, but as Halion was still not working after the update, I tried installing the Retail version, but obviously nothing changed. Since, I have repaired permissions, rebooted the Mac, plugged the dongle on all available USB ports....

nothing!

LLC keeps showing authorized licences for KGB and Halion OEM, but impossible for Halion to pass the AU validation. If I try to run the standalone, I see the splash screen then a dialog box says that no valid licence is registered on the USB dongle (while LLC keeps showing that both licences are authorized). Then a second dialog box says that the plug-in can't be found.

I have since reinstalled the OEM 3.2 updater 5 or 6 times. Most surprising is that it actually doesn't update anything. The AU component on my system still shows version 3.1.0.947. Then I tried running the updater after I deleted the old AU component but nothing happens (in case there was an issue overwriting the previous AU component). The installer doesn't store any new file on my system at all.

But even though the 3.2 updater doesn't update anything on my system, the installer goes through the end of the installing with no problem.

Would someone have any info to share?

This said, the Keyboard FX plug-ins delivered with KGB runs perfectly in Logic and their AU validation passed successfully (KVFX and DC6 Filter). The problem seems to be exclusive to Halion Player.

Does anyone here have Keyboards Vintage Gold Bundle working successfully with Logic?

A bit more info...

I found the files installed through the 3.2 OEM installer.

The Update Halion 3.2 OEM.pkg file weights 31.3MB on the disk.

I opened the package and could see its content:
.DS_Store
CVS (folder which includes the following files)
- Entries 98 bytes
- Repository 2 bytes
- Root 40 bytes
- Tag 12 bytes

The folder CVS is installed on the root of the system drive.
What I don't understand is how come the .pkg file can weights 31.3MB and the files that it includes only 9.0KB total?

There are no AU component that I can see inside the package so it might explain the whole issue. However I can't understand, would it be the case, how Steinberg could make such a download available.

Similiar situation here.
After running this update i cannot use my Scarbee VKC anymore on my G5 with 10.42.
Even reinstalling the original version from the CD doesnt work.
This is true for both the stand alone and the AU version.
Downloaded the latest syncrosoft driver and tried all available USB ports.

I have deleted all files related to the Halion Player installation and reinstalled it from the Scarbee DVD.
The install works fine and install Halion PLayer version 3.1.0.947 as previously mentionned.

I took the chance to look at the content of the package of the Halion Player OEM Installer delivered on the DVD. It's filled with VST, AU components and all files needed. This confirms that the 3.2.0 update installer proposed here for download is invalid as it's empty of all useful files. This is the first plug-in I use that relies on a Steinberg product and I can say I never went through such a hassle to install an instrument. Worst, I can't believe that such a useless file is available for download for about a month what indeed confirms it has not been checked by the development team.

I might be missing something here. Thank you for letting me know if it's the case.

I hope a fix will be made available the soonest as still after the new reinstall of the Halion Player, I can't play Scarbee KGB because of Halion Player failure. I keep having the dialog boxes mentioned in previous posts.

how weird this is...

I chatted with a guy on a French forum. He runs OS 10.4.2 (vs 10.3.9 for me) and said it was working great with him. His AU component version was 3.1.0.947 even though he had installed the 3.2 update.

This morning, for no reason, Halion Player suddenly crashed and kept crashing. He never had any problem so far.

Eventually he reinstalled the whole thing and updated LLC Licences (have no clue by the way how you can update licences as for what I understood, once licences are validated, there is nothing else to do). To cut it short, at the end of the process he could make it work again. I AM TOTALLY LOST and wished we could hear from Steinberg today, at least to give us an idea what's going on with this.

Today i was able to use VKC for a very brief moment after uninstalling a beta version of another plug in and reinstalling VKC.
Thinking i found the real problem causer i was happy-for about 5 minutes until i decided to use a second channel of VKC.
Immediately it crashed on me and ever since i cant use it anymore.(AU or standalone)
This is all happening with the original 3.1 version from the original Installer CD.
I doubt that using the update will change anything.
The only difference that i can see between yesterday and today is that i now get the message "Plug in not found" when i try to run the standalone version of VKC!
Go figure.

I saw exactly the same files as you listed. Consequently (having read your previous posts) I didn't even bother running the installer!

This was from a copy of the updater that I downloaded yesterday (I also looked at the Halion Player Retail update - with the same result), using Pacifist 1.6.3.

Steinberg being very discrete and distant from our issues (at least in communication), I pursued my investigations and with the help of another troubled user I come to news statements:

My system did not have the "Vintage Keyboards Collection component" installed. Even though I ran many times the update, reinstalled the instrument (factory install) it never put the VKC component on my system. The only AU components that were installed were Halion.component (when I was talking of version 3.1.0.947 in my previous posts, that was for the Halion Component) and the VKFX component.

Still waiting for action from Steinberg, I asked this buddy to send me the 3.2 AU component (which I can't see in the package contents due to a BIG MISTERY!)
And I was surprised that the file he sent me was not named Halion.component but Vintage Collection Keyboard.component. Of course I had no idea that I was missing this one at that time, as I assumed that VKC was entirely handled by the Halion component.

Well, anyway. Once I copied this file into my system drive, I could run VKC in Logic with no problem at all.
That leads me to conclude that on top of issues listed in previous posts, the factory installer has a serious issue as it doesn't install all needed files on the system. Pretty unusual isn't it?

Still Halion Standalone doesn't work. It keeps crashing and showing the same symptoms as mentioned in previous posts.

I keep hoping that Steinberg will communicate more and fix all these issues the soonest.

Now I have another question, in regards with system performance:
My plug-in is installed on an external drive through FW800. With the RAM preload setup at 0.20 sec it takes about 30 seconds to load a patch (but I can't play, I hear too many audio clips) and with the RAM preload setup at 0.60 sec it took me 1mn15 sec to load a Wurli piano (12V). Are these benchmarks ok or is there something wrong on my system?

In a new virgin logic project, I loaded a Wurli piano (12V Daft Pump) and as I was just playing a few chords (7 notes) the Audio Performance bargraph was sticking in the 40 to 60% range. Quite scary as it was the unique plug-in loaded. Again is that normal? (my system: PB 1.25 with 1.25 GB RAM)?

Before i ran the 3.2 updater and VKC was still working on my G5 i found that the loading speed for big patches was rather slow.
Ivory for example seems to load much larger patches much faster.
Actually my main reason for trying the 3.2 updater was the hope to improve loading times.
Guess it didnt really work out that way.........
