Okay, it's been a while but AudioMidi have a few more No-Brainer deals on. I'm paricularly interested in the Nomad Factory Studio Channel SC-226 - anyone got it/tried it/rate it?

Who am I kidding? I'm just gonna buy it anyway - more sonic candy for me. Laughing

For anyone thinking of getting the T-Racks compressor I say just buy it for $10, it has a useful stereo widener and still sounds good IMHO.

In the Nomad factory fashion, it's fat and retro sounding. Vintage punchy compressor,
the eq is very effective, kinda steep, but i guess what you're after is colour and not a surgical tool.
The valve warmth button adds more character, from subtle to gritty harmonic distortion.
It's all about taste; in my opinion, it sounds exactly how it looks like.

yeah i'll probably get both. useful additions to the arsenal.

on a related note. what about Nomad Factory Magnetic (reel-to-reel emulation). It's currently $49 on dontcrack.com rather than $199.

anyone tried it? opinions?

Thanks Manakesna, that's just what I wanted to hear - I'll definitely get it then!

I got the Nomad British Bundle and Analogue Trackbox in previous AM No-Brainer deals and really like them for adding colour, sounds like this is similar - hopefully not too similar though! Wink

@ forge - Yeah, I've got my eye on that too. I'll download the demo later tonight,

i just went for it. got the analog trackbox which i don't like much, but i do like the british eq and the oilcan echo. so nomad obviously can write good plugins...
at this price, it's worth the tiny risk. ed

Yeah, I know what you mean about the Analog Trackbox, I wouldn't use it on a whole mix. What I do use it for is adding cohesion to disparate drum samples from the thousands I seem to have accumulated, just a little bit on each element makes them sound as if they belong together even though some are sampled from vinyl, some from sample packs and some made with vsts etc.

I also agree about the British Bundle EQ, veeery nice! The compressor not so much though, I prefer the T-Racks 670 & Opto and also Cytomics The Glue. Really wish I'd gone for some of the AudioMidi Nomad Effects but for some reason I was fighting my knee-jerk-impulse-buy reaction at the time, heh!

ys; the british bundle compressor; on paper and onscreen it looks great. but i just can't get it to sound good. thought it was just me... it is so unpredictable with levels all over the place. the exact opposite of what it's meant to do! but the eq is on a par with the uad pultec.
and the oilcan echo sounds really smooth, even when automating delay times etc.

this one is definitely worth having. straight away it sounds better than analog trackbox and british compressor.

got the demo of the t-racks compressor and the nomad sc-226.

didn't think a great deal of the T-racks compressor to be honest. pretty good but I'm a tight-fisted student. more bang for your buck with the nomad plug for sure. and will also act as a nice folly to my (sometimes too much) clinical Izotope plugs.

Downloaded the demo and I definitely prefer it to Analogue Track Box, with the tube engaged it's not quite as crunchy on hats and snares and veeery nice on bass - adds a really nice full roundness.

I also downloaded the Nomad Factory 'Magnetic' demo. Whoah! That is a seriously nice sounding tape/tube saturation plug, I'm definitely getting it - only $49 at the moment (then goes up to $199):

Ok, think that's the Christmas shopping for myself sorted for this month Laughing

have you tried the G-Sonique valve stuff? They look good and are very reasonably priced...

I haven't got Magneto, I only joined the Cubase camp at 4. Really wish I had it to compare with, I've tried installing SX3 from the legacy site to get it (and also the A1 synth) but it only gets so far and then errors Crying or Very sad

Magnetic doesn't have wow and flutter options, nor hysteresis, hiss, warp or anything like that so it's no good for ADT etc. What it does concentrate on is tape and tube warmth/saturation/colouration and even limiting. There are tape speed options to deliberately degrade your audio for special effects (slow=lo-fi Dash=hi-fi) and 2 broad EQ controls warmth & focus (i.e. bass/treble).

I think it'll mostly get used on the Dash setting with Boost engaged (limiting) and with the Tape and Tube saturation/colouration dialled in to taste. It does a really good job of warming up VST synths and beefing up weedy guitars, like daubing on colour with a big thick paintbrush - lovely! From now on I think I'll point anyone looking for a 'phat', 'warm' or 'analogue-sounding' plug-in in this direction Very Happy

I really recommend trying the demo, I bought the SC-226 in the end and I think I'll buy Magnetic too...

OK, there, done it - got Magnetic too! Very Happy

I know Nomad have a dodgy rep and maybe they've pitched it all wrong (just checked out various forumz) as it isn't even remotely realisitic, but as a colourful warmer/saturator/limiter it works a treat - try it!

Ok, I like Magnetic so much I'm gonna start a new post, I really do think they have pitched it ever-so slightly wrong but I guess 'Vintage' & 'Warmer' were already taken.

However, it's still a very different plug-in to the PSP favourite.
