Perhaps we can have this as a sticky.

The hardware in my Profile Works perfectly with an MR816 via Firewire and even better via ADAT.
Audio will dropout but only under high levels of PCI Load from my UADs and Powercore.
Other than that its perfect.

Please list your working systems. And Please Try to Refrain from posting looking for support / discussion etc.

My Penryn Macbook pro 17" is working beautifully.

Also I have a new AMD 3.2 ghz quad core windows system that works quite well. asus motherboard with onboard firewire and windows 7.

No problems with performance on either system, but I don't have any pci hardware devices, like a powercore or whatever, I just use vst and external instruments.

OK Grasshoper.

THe way that this works, is that we need to know the make and model of your motherboard.
Check out my profile. Just create a profile like that for yourself, and then you only need to say.. working perfectly on machine "a" .. obviously a being machine mentioned in profile.

Cheers

The thing about profiles is they change dynamically for all posts when you change the main. So I listed it in the post to make it an historical item.

I don't know the model of motherboard, but I'll update when I do have it. I think your instructions needed a bit of work as I didn't know that is what you were getting at Smile

Cripes.

This is obviously a non working idea then. Well done.

You MUST but your motherboard and chipset information, otherwise an HCL is useless. Oh well.

here's mine... and all works fine together 1 PCI & 1 PCIe poco, 2 PCIe UAD-1's plus the Liquid Mix (on a different fw port powered from a TI based PCI-e card). Could not do that on an ASUS board, Gigabyte and Intel are the only ones I've tried and can handle separate IRQ's on (more than one) PCI ports. Also they both constantly use TI firewire...

Thanks Aroma.

I have to say, it works very well on Windows 7 on my setup (nearly same as yours) too..the PCI loads only seem to come to effect more on Windows XP.
I have yet to work out why, thanks for prompting that clarification.

Have you taken your UAD's up to 85% with it yet?

I have decided to put together an MR webpage with setup and tweaks and stuff... so the HCL aint that important here anymore...

I wonder who thinks this might be a good idea ??

I think it's a good idea.

I have an MR816 CSX on the way with fingers crossed that it's going to work. I think I have a VIA Firewire chipset on my MB (see below). I'm running Liquid Mix on a separate PCI firewire card & it's been working fine...couldn't tell you the name of the PCI firewire chipset at the moment.

Hi Everyone,

Just to follow up, the motherboard I have is ASUS M4A78-E and that uses a via chip for firewire. This is of course my backup system, as I mostly use my macbook pro for audio work.

Well,

I was actually thinking of commercialising the webpage to create an HCL for every bit of audio gear people use!
What you think of that?

i5-750 4 x 2.67 GHz
ASUS P7P55D Pro motherboard *)
8 GByte DDR3 1333 MHz Kingston (4 x 2 GByte)
HIS HD 4650 iSilence (passive!) 512 MByte graphic card
Win7 64 Bit Professional
PCIe FW card using TI chip set (original Win7 TI driver, I didn't change to the legacy one)
MR816csx

Buffer Size of the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver V 1.5.1 now 128 samples (= 3.9 msec), but it's also working well at 32 samples!

*) Remarks:
- on board VIA FW not used (disabled via BIOS)
- Speed-Step disabled
- C1E disabled
- Intel C-STATE Tech disabled inside the BIOS (see my post http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=130646)

All the "nice" Win7 features (like AERO or system sounds via on board audio) not disabled because they don't affect audio performance anymore, WLAN active because no side effects detected...

Works really great after disabling C-STATE Tech...

No problem with TI onboard chipset. The only thing I had to do is to connect MR816 with 6 pin - 4pin 4,5m Firewire cable.
6-6pin did some crackles which is caused mainly by electric line..
If you connect it with 6-4 you are bypassing the electric line which you do not need, because Mr816 has its own power supply...

I am having great results with the following system and hardware:

OS Name Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional x64 Edition

Other OS Description Not Available
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Name XP64

BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 2704, 3/20/2008
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Total Physical Memory 8,190.80 MB
Available Physical Memory 5.49 GB
Total Virtual Memory 31.58 GB
Available Virtual Memory 29.85 GB
Page File Space 24.00 GB
Motherboard ASUS PSW DH Deluxe with 8GB OSZ
4Tb of hard drive space, 2 x 2tb

I am running Cubase 5.11 and FL Stuio 9.03 with...
CC121
MR816CSX
Frontier Group Tranzport Wireless Controller
Novation 25SL Compact
Automap 3.4

I can control Cubase 5 with all of the above at the same time. Automap 3.4 also controls any VST or VST3.

A note about ASUS MBs. Very very stable. The model I am using (P5W DH Deluxe) is crash proof and I overclock it by 115%! The 1394 Firewire port picked up the MR816CSX right away and the connection has been bulletproof.

If anyone is having problems installing the drivers for the MR816SCX unders XP64 see last posting on this under <Help> under the hardware section of the <MR816CSX> . I outlined how I was able to install all the drivers and software for Vista 64 on my Xp64 system.

Hi Martin, sorry for the delayed reply, I didn't see your post for some reason.

My macbook pro is from spring 2008, so not very recent, but it's the revision before the current ones.
I use mac os, boot camp doesn't work very well with any audio device I've tried, too much latency. I think the firewire drivers in bootcamp need work.

I currently have 2 mr816csx, so yes I've tried multiple. they work well together, as long as you understand their limitations. I haven't had much of a chance to use them in the past month or so, I expect coming up in may that will change quite a bit. After that I should be able to comment more on using them.

Hi Grasshopper,

Thanks for getting back!

the new driver and utility solved my laptop problem instantly, so the old Lenovo lives on running two MR's. I have done two sets of location recordings (classical) with two MR's on the laptop without any problems.

Cheers,
Martin

Strangely i have a 2007 macbook pro and the bootcamped windows side works a lot better than the OSX 10.5 side for audio. I can play live(my keyboard rig) with 64 sample buffer under XP but not in OSX. I also use the XP side to do all my location recording using 2x 816's linked to two ADA 8000's

A few things to ask you all:

1. Agree or disagree that this TI chipset firewire card is suitable? http://bit.ly/cqjd6G
2. Agree or disagree that the latest Win7 (32bit) driver (V.1.5.2) seems to be single threaded i.e. only uses one core of physical Quad-Core processor?
3. Anyone running this smoothly on an AMD Phenom II X4 machine?
4. Re: driver stability - thoughts on 32bit VS 64bit

Many thanks

For all of you out there experiencing problems with AMD based PC's I advise you to check the following:

1. Check for, download and apply the latest BIOS update for your board (even if it doesn't come from your PC supplier, check the board manufacturers website e.g. www.asus.com)
2. Check for, download and apply the latest chipset drivers (again, even if they're not available from your PC supplier, check the chipset website e.g. www.nvidia.com)
3. As said before by others use CPU-Z to get all the information you can't find about your board, BIOS, chipset etc to make searching for the latest updates easier

I resolved all my issues by applying a BIOS update that wasn't actually intended for my HP PC but it was compatible with the ASUS NVIDIA based board.

Appreciate that for those still experiencing problems I will come across as lucky BUT unfortunately PC spec's can never be the same even if you buy from the likes of DELL or HP.

Thank you to all in this topic for your help and advice - just by reading your posts I have resolved all my problems
