Well... It's not that simple. replacing the mentioned BMP file doesn't really fix the general problem. I work with other plugins (i.e. Wizoo Darbuka) which still appear defect after replacing the BMP file. It's a pretty hot issue in other forums as well. And the problems Quicktime has caused are many.

Read http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=606355&tstart=0

So again, if any have a solution as how to kill Quicktime please inform us.

Thanks!

Brick wall

BEWARE OF LATEST COMPRESSOR UPDATER ALSO!

Upon reading the warnings I didn't install the latest iTUnes 7 or the QT (using the last release prior to this buggy one).

however, I do use final cut and did update the COMPRESSOR utility program....

I started getting smeary SCORE symbols...they looked like half wet ink and smeared when I dragged them across the score
while holding option to make a copy (e.g. dragging a C chord symbol to other bars that were using that chord instead of creating a brand new one)
the graphics looked weird while dragging_ like the symbol was on paper (instead of a computer screen) and it was wet and smearing ....weird...

but when dropped into place the smearing cleared up and the symbol now sat there looking 1/2 wet and 1/2 dry (one 1/2 darker that the other)

only a screen redraw/update (by clicking on that tab in the tool box at top of score window) fixed each smear, one at a time....
then the next smear (by copy dragging a different symbol) created the former ones with problems to look weird again.....

I ran disc warrior from a reboot from the disc warrior boot disc and it took a really long time to come around to finally saying that I had a whole bunch of bad icons and other stuff that all had oriental symbols .... installed and used by Compressor....
I choose the fix directory option and rebooted back from internal boot disc...problem seems to have gone away...

I don't have any optional languages installed except english and spanish, no orientals, russian, etc...
hence no other symbols in my international language palette that Mac OSX installs...

wonder if anyone else has a line on this.....?

If you were able to remove all of Quicktime from a Mac, I'd be surprised if anything worked at all. It's really not that simple. It's tightly integrated into the OS and it's libraries are used for displaying of images.

You need to look in the resources folder for your plugin and look at the graphic files contained in there - see my reply above to the Hypersonic 2 problem for a walk through of how to do it.

Well I've managed to fix Hypersonic on my system using the method described by Fitz. I extracted all of the BMP files from the Hypersonic 2 AU component and VST plugin, transferred them to my PC and ran a batch process in Paint Shop Pro to open all of the files and resave them to a new folder. I then copied the files back to my Mac and put them back inside the plugin packages. I'm not sure exactly which files were faulty, so can't help pinpoint them unfortunately.

I've uploaded a zip file containing all of the bitmaps to http://rapidshare.de/files/33768065/Hypersonic2fix.zip if anyone wants to try applying the corrected files themselves. There's a readme in the zip file too detailing what needs to be done.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards
Andrew

Yeah, we may all have learned a lesson Confused - but apparently this is not a minor problem for most people in this forum. Pesonally I've been completely paralysed in my work, since one of my most used V-synth isn't working - and apparently Apple has no solution regarding uninstall. So do any have a constructive comment or suggestion as to how we can downgrade or delete??

I think your only option is to manually get rid of Quicktime 7.1.3.
First, download the full install of the version you wish to downgrade to....
Then get Pacifist
Manually deleting the following files and folders should then allow you to install the older version with Pacifist (you may not have to delete the files - Pacifist might do it for you)

/Library/Receipts - trash anything QuickTime
/Library/QuickTime
/System/Library/PreferencePanes/QuickTime.prefpane
/Applications/QuickTime Player.app

* /System/Library/Tcl/QuickTimeTcl3.1 - Not sure about this one (leave it for now)

I'd be backing up my system before trying this as uninstalling QuickTime is NOT as trivial as it should be.

Good Luck

It's MUCH easier to edit the offending bmp files than to de-install QuickTime! You don't need a second computer, it can all be done on your mac, should take no more than 5-10 minutes.

All you need is a copy of Graphic Converter (free I think, but if not get it you'll never regret it). Open the packages as described by Fitz in column view with preview on. It's easy to see which graphics are only half-drawn in the preview - they as indicated by Fitz. Drag these onto graphic converter, save to the desktop as bmp's, then drag back into the package replacing the originals. I re-set their permissions to be the same as the other bmp's using the get info command but I expect there's no need to do this.

It takes about 5-10 minutes and works reliably. Reinstalling Quicktime would, I expect, be a far more significant thing, and then you'll be stuck there until Steinberg release a patch, which might be soon or it could be later.

I have just had the same problem using Hypersonic2 in Ableton Live 5. It seems impossible to delete Quicktime!!! Fitz's method works but one important bmp still didn't work after I tried it in Adobe Paintshop Pro (didn't work at all in Windows Paint). I still couldn't see the hyperwheels (or whatever they're called). Downloaded Andrew71's bmps and all looks fine!! Thank you both so much!! If anyone comes up with a foolproof method of getting rid of Quicktime please post. Same yourself hours of frustration and try Fitz's and Andrew71's methods.

Sounds a whole load of grief, guys - but I've had 7.1.3 for a few days now & I'm not getting the graphics problem.
Who knows why it should affect some but not others.

PPC Dual 800 Quicksilver, OS 10.4.7, QT 7.1.3, SX 3.1.0 933
PC still has 7.0.4 - I think I'll leave this well alone for now;-)

I replied to you a while ago about this - see above and see my reply to andrew71 where I detail the process. It should be the same process for 'Darbuka' (not familiar with it) - just look for it's plugin rather than Hypersonic2 in my example above.

Thank You very much Andrew71,
I think Steinberg support is the worst support I've ever met...
I'm planning to leave Hyperonic 2 to move to something else, cause I bought a Macbook and don't know if it will ever be released in UB..
Hoping to find an interesting crossgrade...
Anyway, hope steinberg will contact Andrew to thank him.... Very Happy Very Happy
