Dear cubase.net user,

Most areas of this forum require that you include your USB-eLicenser/Steinberg Key number(s) in your registration information (profile) to be able to participate.

  • The USB-eLicenser number is displayed in the License Control Center or its successor the eLicenser Control Center. This application can be found in your Program Files folder (Windows) or in the Applications folder (Mac OS X). All connected keys are listed with a 12-digit key number. Please enter the first 6 digits only!
  • Do not use the USB-eLicenser number as your user name!
  • Users of Nuendo and related products are asked to login to the nuendo.com forum. If you want to post at Cubase.net please include your USB-eLicenser number in your profile as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am using Steinberg products not requiring a USB-eLicenser/Steinberg Key. What should I do now?
A: If you use a product which does not require a USB-eLicenser, such as Cubase SE 1.0.7, Cubase VST, WaveLab 5 or older plugins, then don't worry! Currently, the new fields are primarily used for the products mentioned above.

Q: I do not own a Steinberg product yet but I would like to gather some first hand pre-purchase information. What do I do?
A: You do not have to fill in the USB-eLicenser number field and you can ask any question that is needed for your inquiry of course.

Q: Why do you exclude Cubase VST users from entering a key number as well?
A: This is for several reasons. Cubase VST was discontinued several years ago. It is also not easy to get the number of the LPT port key. This would mean to open the key physically or to install the eLicenser Control Center for this purpose only.
We think this would be more hassle than would be acceptable for Cubase VST users.

Q: I am not using Steinberg products at all but I like the forum and I am often posting in the Music Lounge. What do I do now?
A: This is not a problem as long as you are not a user of the products mentioned above. Feel free to use the Music Lounge as usual.

Q: I have entered a number. Can you please validate it for me?
A: Sorry, no. We will validate numbers when it appears to be useful. If there has been a non-valid number entered by you will be asked to correct it. We will also do a mass validation from time to time.

Q: I have more than two USB-eLicensers. How do I store the additional numbers?
A: You don't need to do this. The main purpose is to have the number stored of your primarily used products. This USB-eLicenser may also contain additional licenses or not. If, for example, you have more than one or two Cubase versions running, it is enough to enter at least one number of the newest/biggest version you use. It is also not required to enter numbers of empty USB-eLicensers!

Q: I have trouble reading the USB key number! I can't see a difference between a "0" (zero) and an "O" (letter "O"). What now?
A: If in doubt assume they are 0s (zeros).
